RESTORING AN HISTORIC BUILDING

The old Barbee Inn at on Main street is vibrant with the very interesting sounds of building, digging, painting, woodworking, and updating electricity, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning.

The Landes family and contractors have committed enormous time and effort to bring the old inn back to life after years of neglect.

The renewed inn has become The Crack'd Pillar Pub, an elegant but friendly and family-oriented restaurant serving light lunch and dinner fare with a hometown touch.  The first floor features  the beautifully renovated public dining room with custom-made hammered tin ceiling in the 19th-century style.

Those same tin decorations are found on the bar of the pleasant upstairs room where clients can mingle in the tradition of small-town socializing.  The Bar may also be rented for private dinners and parties such as wedding-rehearsal dinners,  birthday occasions, and other social events.  The Bar room can be reached separately from the generous parking lot in the rear of the building.

An additional downstairs public room has been painstakingly restored with care to reproduce the exact decorations of an earlier era.  Teas and small buffet luncheons may be booked there, as well as small private parties.

An upstairs office will handle bookings, etc.  It was once guest Room 13... and that can ease the mind of any lurking guest ghosts!  The other upstairs room is a mixed-purpose space, with charming front window views onto the upstairs bannistered balcony.

A doorway at the top of the stairs allows access to that attractive space where pub guests may sit with friends and watch Bridgewater go by on Main Street.

In one of several very welcome surprises the owners found the actual 'discarded' bannisters which were.... and will again be...  an authentic historic touch to the downstairs entrance where more outdoor seating beckons.

The Bridgewater Historical Society has taken much interest in this very appropriate renewal and repurposing of a downtown historic entity.  The Town will be enhanced by the authenticity of its restoration.
